Job Description

Prior Authorization Specialist – TEKsystems Join TEKsystems as a Prior Authorization Specialist and play a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate insurance authorizations for oncology, radiation oncology and radiology services. This position requires strong knowledge of online authorization portals, managed care, and excellent customer‑service skills. Responsibilities Perform pre‑certifications and authorizations using online portals and phone systems. Specialize in oncology, radiation oncology or radiology authorizations, ensuring each authorization meets payer requirements. Review insurance and managed care coverage, ensuring accurate demographic and benefit data are entered into the Practice Management System. Maintain compliance with governmental, accreditation, and company policies and procedures. Serve as a liaison during patient encounters, greeting patients, verifying information and explaining co‑pay and billing procedures. Schedule appointments and procedures, entering all relevant data in the system to prepare accurate medical records and billing. Answer telephone calls professionally, triage and resolve inquiries, and provide follow‑up as needed. Utilize integrated Practice Management System functions—recalls, confirmations, wait lists and online appointments—to enhance continuity of care. Interact with practice staff, physicians and other team members to coordinate efficient patient flow. Collection and referral tasks: identify, forward and document referrals and authorizations to the A/R Department within required timeframes. Conduct check‑out procedures, input patient charges and verify patient information, confirming understanding of billing policies. Qualifications Associate’s degree required. Minimum of 2+ years of experience in insurance or authorization processing. Experience with Epic, Athena, or Cerner preferred. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to operate under pressure. Excellent communication skills and a patient‑centric approach.
